I read in the papers again today reports of the increasing world food crisis. I thin of my words on Breakfast T.V. on Monday, when asked about the shortage I said "Yes! And can you imagine that people here are running out and starting to hoard rice!" And I think again how absurd such action is, if you stop to think about it.....the price of rice is doubling and tripling because there is a shortage- so we- who have so much food and so much choice of foods- run out and buy up as much as we can- creating an even greater shortage of rice and pushing the price up further. Kind of makes you want to shake your head doesn't it?

I have just returned from the annual meeting of the Montreal & Ottawa Conference of the United Church of Canada. While there, I had the good fortune to get a copy of Sallie MacFague's "Life Abundant."  She hits the nail on the head when she argues the freeing future for us is found in discovering the place of enough. There is great satisfaction in enough....like after a good meal...satisfied not necessarily full. Enough. There is freedom in that.

Tuesday June 3rd

Oh this consciousness raising is difficult! I have so far to go in catching my actions up with my understanding. I ran out quickly to the grocery store this morning- there wasn't a thing in the house to eat- and saw some cherries. I took only one serving of them- and went and got coffee and bread. Tonight I sat down after my days work was done and took that wondrous first bite of a perfectly ripe juicy cherry and oh I felt so lucky to taste that- then- oh my- to eat this now it has come such a long way....I should have waited for BC's. they are at least closer...

Yes, it is difficult this work.
