Many gifted
by leadership and teaching of Fr. Seby Mascarenhas from the All India
Mission Seminary, Pilar, Goa, India.
The Institute was proud to host Fr. Sebastiao Mascarenhas, a Pilar Father from the All India Mission Seminary, Goa, India. Fr. Seby arrived in Canada on June 11 to begin his 3 week visit. He is the first international scholar and spiritual leader the Institute has hosted through its bursary and teaching fellowship fund. Fr. Seby has committed his life to a missionary society and spent the first 12 years of his priesthood working with the Tribal people of India. The Tribals are the Aboriginal, or First Nations people of India and comprise about 8% of the population, or approximately 8 million people. While in Canada, Fr. Seby was pleased to meet with the Rev. Ken Laughton and members of the community at Curve Lake First Nation, Ont. and was honoured to be invited to participate in the Decoration Service at the Curve Lake Cemetery on June 15th. He was also honoured by the invitations extended to him to participate in the season celebrations, including his first sweat, at the Dr. Jessie Saulteaux Centre at Beausejour, Mb. and then to preside at an Indian Rite Mass at Katerie Tekakwitha Parish, Winnipeg Mb. on June 29th.
Fr. Seby offered public lectures and mini-retreats on Arts & Spirituality in Peterborough, Ottawa and Winnipeg. These were well received and stimulated the interest of many participants to continue to explore how they might engage in the Arts as an expression of their spirit.
