Course Logistics

Students

Enrollment in each of our courses is limited to 12 students. Each course is accompanied overseas by both a professor and a teaching assistant. Enrollment in continuing education courses is open to religious leaders (lay and ordained) and adult learners interested in spiritual practices and global justice. Credit courses are open to students registered in degree programs in Canadian seminaries. Travel in India can be rigorous. We will be doing substantial walking over uneven terrain. Students must be in generally good health prior enrolling in this course.

Transportation

We fly to and from India with a major airline company. All participants in a course travel to and from India as a group. Flights in India are provided by Jet Airways and Indian Airlines. Ground transportation includes: chartered mini-busses, hired cars, overnight and day time train, and autorickshaw.

Accommodation

Our accommodations in India are simple, safe, and clean. Our rooms are all equipped with twin beds, (with firm/hard mattresses), ceiling fans or air conditioning, and private bathrooms with showers and hot water. All hotels are government approved. At the seminaries, we stay in guest housing. Tuition costs are based on shared accommodation.

Food

We will enjoy a tremendous variety of food during our time in India. Needless to say, rice will become a staple of our diets. Vegetarian diets are the norm in India, but we will have many opportunities to relish local fish and chicken. All of the seminaries provide purified water and their cooks are familiar with Western palates, (they prepare food for us that is not as hot as might be enjoyed by the locals).

Health & Safety

All reasonable efforts will be made to ensure we have a safe and healthy trip. Some immunizations are strongly recommended for people traveling in India. All students are encouraged to check with their family doctor, or local travel health advisor, to make certain that they are adequately prepared for their journey through India.  Early registration for courses is essential to allow adequate time for students to receive required immunizations before travel.

There is always some level of risk in traveling anywhere in the world today. Our local partners are in tune with the current political situation in their country and region. Every precaution will be taken to avoid undue risk in our travels. We do not travel into areas where there is a likelihood of political unrest.
