Transportation
We use a variety of means of transportation while traveling in India. Our aim to provide diversity of experience balanced with concern for: safety, logistics of group travel, expedient use of time, and cost. While we aim to include travel at the standard used by the majority of Indians, for economy of time we will take domestic flights and out of concern for safety will travel first class when taking overnight trains. Domestic flights are taken with Jet Airways: a middle priced reliable domestic airline.
Trains are often the most efficient and and economical way to travel overland. We travel by train to and from Bangalore and Mysore. The Institute is not responsible for carrying of student luggage. Most train stations have lengthy stairs to get from one track to another. Students may chose to hire porters to carry luggage at a nominal fee (rps. 10 per bag).
There will be times when we will travel together as one large group in a mini-bus. Those courses traveling from Pune to Aurangabad to visit the Ellora Caves is one example. Sometimes when engaged in site seeing. We will also split up into smaller groups to travel in Ambassador or Sumo taxis. This will often be the case when traveling from airports/train stations to accommodation.
We will also experience traveling by Auto-rickshaw. In particular, when traveling to and from the sisters in Mysore and on city shopping excursions.
